Venue Access & Childcare

Venue

Kawaiicon is held at the quite beautiful Michael Fowler Centre in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). Bottom of Cuba St, smack dab in the CBD, and right next to the waterfront.

111 Wakefield Street
Te Aro, Wellington 6011
New Zealand

When you register for the con, we will ask if you have any accessibility needs so we can make sure you can enjoy the con stress free. You are also welcome to email us at kiwicon@kiwicon.org and we would love to help. More accessibility details are available from Venues Wellington.

Getting here

If you are coming from the airport: Wellington Airport is about a 15-minute car ride away, and there are a few different taxi / ride share app options. Metlink offer an Airport Express bus from the airport to CBD and take cash or paywave, and that is about a 30-minute ride.

Getting around the CBD: Everything around town is pretty close distance. Metlink run the public busses and accept contactless credit or debit cards. You can even rent a scooter while listening to our previous con talks about how easy they were to hack! Parking will cost around $30 for the day and there are a few near the venue (but also a ton of construction so good luck).

There are heaps of accommodation options, and even more food options.

On-site food

Speaking of food! Inside the venue there will be (espresso) coffee, tea, drinks, and snacks for sale. We also try to get food trucks parked up outside so you don’t have to go far for a feed, and we will update this page once we get some confirmed. Otherwise, if you trip in any direction outside the venue you are sure to stumble upon something with caffeine or variable nutritional value.

On-site daycare

Friday 9am - 5pm, Saturday 9am - 5pm
The Michael Fowler Centre - Lion Harborview (Level 2)

We don’t want childcare costs to hold folks back from coming to experiencing the ‘con, so we have free on-site daycare. We hired some pretty amazing licensed educators to come park up in a room in the venue to look after the wee little hackers. This is available both days of the con but you must let us know before the actual con (so we have enough educators).

When you register, we will ask if you need daycare and then will reach out to you before the con to confirm details. If you have a question or missed checking the box in a mad panic to buy tickets, email us at kiwicon@kiwicon.org.

Quiet space

Friday 9am - 5pm, Saturday 9am - 5pm
The Michael Fowler Centre - Fletcher Challenger Foyer Cafe (Level 0)

Even the Crüe get overwhelmed with everything happening during the con. If you need a space to take a break and just chill, we have a designated quiet space on the ground floor (where the old cafe used to be). Rest, recharge, and then re-join the con when you are ready.
