Sponsors

Kawaiicon is bred from the blood, sweat, tears, and glitter of the Crüe and volunteers. And when that form of currency is not accepted by our vendors, we turn to our incredible sponsors. They have generously endowed us with enough cash so you don’t have to.

Wellington Green Gecko - ‘Naultinus Elegans Punctatus in a Lounging Jacket’ Tier

This tier is in honor of the local Wellington Green Gecko who sported lil’ green lounging jackets in the name of scientific research. Much like this gorgeous green little guy, we want to get people’s attention from the moment the switch is flipped and the ‘con starts. Thanks to these sponsors we can have the slightly ludicrous but always awesome AV setup KawaiiCon has become infamous for. We really can’t run things without these folks.

Archy’s Frog - ‘Leiopelma Archeyi Wearing a Lil Baby Froglet like a Backpack’ Tier

Archey’s frog are super teeny weeny guys who carry their even-more teeny weeny babies on their backs like teeny weeny backpacks! Thanks to these sponsors we are able to support the families and little kiddos that now make up a lot of our community.

It’s Halloween, So We Had To Have A Bat - ‘Mystacina tuberculata rhyacobia’ Is A Fearsome Creature Of The Night’ Tier

Our bats are shy creatures who prefer to come out at night; much like some of our ‘con-goers who abstain from the daylight and visibility where possible. These sponsors help us pay for video streaming, and make the talks accessible later if the speakers choose to.

Kauri Snail - ‘Powelliphanta Eating Worm Spaghetti’ Tier

These giant land snails are carnivorous, weigh as much as a tui, and eat earthworms like giant squirmy spaghetti. These sponsors help us run events that happen around KawaiiCon, such as the afterparty, or the girl geek dinner, where people will gather together outside of the conference. It also covers the green room and other speaker-only goodies, which we promise are not earthworms.

Velvet Worms - ‘Onychophora Waving Oh Hi~’ Tier

Turns out velvet worms are not worms, or insects, but they are really adorable and we had to have them as a sponsorship category so that more people know that they exist. Sadly, they are not as pettable as they appear to be, and have a horrifying defence mechanism we suggest you do not search. These sponsors help us cover things that give KawaiiCon its flavour, like the stage dressing, or our penchant of finding weird things online and presenting them to people as prizes.

Huhu Grub - ‘Prionoplus reticularis wants to fly into your outside lights’ Tier

Huhu grubs are more famous than the beetles; mostly because as far as we know no one has dipped the beetles in chocolate and sold them to people as snacks. The beetles are far more likely to interrupt you by trying to headbutt your light source, so of course we had to pick them. Like the velvet worm tier, this level of sponsorship is for making it easier for Kawaiicon to add the touches that make this ‘con unique and help us subsidize tickets for folks that have more friction or barriers that make it harder to attend the con.

Tubular Engineering Tier

As always: A special thanks to our most honourable (and very understanding) hosting provider, who has sponsored and managed our disorganised array of servers since the beginning.
