by Zelle Marcovicci | - 4:30pm

Around the turn of the millennium, a virtual pet site called Neopets was born. Somehow, it still exists. Nobody ever plans to become a Neo-criminal, but it turns out it’s easy, fun, and, for a brief window in time, it was even profitable! This is the story of one lunatic, her Neopets trading hype group turned crime ring, and how social engineering can get you anything you’ve ever wanted.

About Zelle Marcovicci

Zelle is a tech nerd, anarchist, and stuffed animal collector. She has a singular focus on virtual worlds (and breaking them) because it’s nice to feel like you have control over something these days. In the real world, she’s done her time across game development, start-ups, education and charities and is now a postgraduate student at Massey University because it’s the only place that will let her study data visualization and furries.
